Avon River Precinct Te Papa Ōtākari

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery

Hi Everyone,

So much has happened already this year that Christmas seems but distant memory. The city has been full of people visiting & enjoying the  new Margaret Mahy Playground, the newly reopened Art Gallery, the Museum, the Botanic Gardens, Re-Start Mall and everything in between. It's great to see a real buzz of visitors & locals. I've heard the latest thing is a "stay-cation" and if you want to stay at home for your holidays Christchurch right now is the perfect place to do it!

Part of my work as Associate Minister of Earthquake Recovery is around the restoration & enhancement of the Te Papa Ōtākaro/Avon River precinct, you can read their latest newsletter here http://bit.ly/1SN13jV

The river has been at its sparkling best over the holidays & the kids at the playground have been telling me that they have seen heaps of trout & eels. I am delighted that all the cleaning work & getting rid of that silt & liquefaction post-earthquake has made such a huge difference.
