Canterbury Earthquake Recovery

Congratulations to All Right? Canterbury District Health Board who were finalists in the IPANZ  Awards Public Sector Engagement category.

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman has today announced that Leighs Construction has won the construction contract to build Christchurch Hospital’s new $72 million Outpatients facility.

Many New Zealanders are concerned about housing and housing affordability. It’s certainly a challenge. It peaked in Christchurch in 2014 driven by the destruction of homes by the earthquakes, the need for temporary accommodation during repairs and the influx of people to help with the rebuild.

I am particularly pleased with the passing of the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Bill.  It passed with the unanimous support of all parties in Parliament.

The theme this year was  "Shaping Canterbury’s Future Now – Collaboration, Regeneration & Innovation".

On Sunday 21 February I joined with the First Knowledge Group  - bereaved families and survivors - and the Earth Quake Memorial Designer Grega Vezjak to plant shrubs at the site of the official Earth Quake Memorial currently under construction.

Associate Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Nicky Wagner has today released the Draft Victoria Square Restoration Plan which focuses on retaining and enhancing the Square’s existing character.
